Add a Podcast to Windows Media Center with Media Browser
I’ve recently dove headfirst into Media Browser for the Windows Media Center in Windows 7 and I love it. It’s ability to automatically pull metadata & images from the internet and provide a visually appealing display to my movie collection is a huge addition to my Windows Media Center setup.
In addition to organizing your music and videos in WMC, you can also add podcasts. This is really cool… in theory. There are a few podcasts that I enjoy on a semi-regular basis, and if they were added to my Windows Media Center, I’d likely to enjoy them on a much more regular basis. Unfortunately, about half of the podcasts I tried to add did not work.
Podcasts are added through the Media Browser Configuration Tool. Start > All Programs > Media Browser Configuration Wizard. If you don’t already have Media Browser, you can download it here.
First you’ll want to find the URL of the podcast you’d like to add to Windows Media center. It should look something like this:
http://g4tv.com/10play/podcasts/49/Web-Soup-Video-Podcast.xml
http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510092
In the Media Browser Configuration Tool, click on the Podcasts tab at the top, and click the Add button at the bottom.

Copy and Paste the URL (or type it out the if you have a great memory and stunning typing skills) and then click “OK.”

If the podcast works, it will show up in the box on the left. If you get an error like the one below, well, the podcast apparently won’t work with Media Browser.

When you’re finished you’ll see the podcasts option in Media Browser.
If you’re looking for a way to add podcasts to Windows Media Center, try it out. Your favorites might work. It’s just a shame that so many do not, but perhaps that will be fixed in a upcoming version.
Here’s a list of supported podcasts from the Media Browser forum.
